Simple Rules For Displays

Vary the size and height of items and group them in threes. Almost every decorating site recommends this tactic and it works.

However, sometimes there may not be enough space. If that is the case, singles or twos can work just fine.

Shelf Decor Tactics

The background color of the shelves matters. Display dark items on light colored shelves and light items on dark colored shelves.

Mixing the light and dark is also a great idea just make sure the accessories can be seen. No one wants their favorites to get lost because it is the same color as the background.

Break It Up

I love white.

Too much white can be sterile. The last thing anyone wants is to feel as if they are entering a medicinal facility.

The all white kitchen desperately needs some contrast. Living at the lake allows for a lot of wood decor to not only divvy up the white but provides a personal element for a lived in feel.

Different colors of wood is a great way to mix it up and add interest.

Use a Favorite as a Theme

Mercury Glass

Mercury Glass Globes

I love mercury glass and have many of these items strewn throughout my home. The pop of color mercury glass gives to a room that has dark components is really helpful.

I have always wanted our lake house to feel like a lake house but brightness is essential. The dark builtins require pops of color. Using the mercury globes and filling them with lights is the perfect way to brighten up the space while keeping it rustic.

Vases

One of my best friends is an amazing florist, I am not. I struggle arranging flowers. My mom taught me a brilliant secret. Vases with a skinny neck. Boom!

This little trick is for all those out there who struggle when it comes to arranging flowers. I always try to buy vases with a skinny neck because it is much easier to arrange the flowers.

Also, tulips! I love tulips because of the different colors they come in and more so because of how easy they are to arrange in any type of vase.

Store Accessories

What does that even mean? The mercury glass bowl above was at the counter in my favorite decor shop and I fell in love with it. The store had it there to display their business cards. Bought it not knowing where it was going or how it would be used.

Started as a candle holder with a glass candle inside...it was okay but not the solution.

One day I put it on the table and threw in all the remotes I use for my lights, fans, blinds and voila, love it.
