Remodel Fixture Selection ~ The Do’s and Don’ts

Kitchen & Bathroom Hardware Selection

Remodel fixture selection ~ the do’s and don’ts found in this Post. The best part of a remodel is choosing the hardware. Kitchen and bath fixture selection should be easy, and what you are most excited about when dressing up your rooms. Unfortunately, a couple of my choices have been my biggest mistakes.

Remodel Fixture Selection Mistakes

Let’s start with the mistakes and move on.

#1 Mistake

I chose the Smart Touch faucet for the kitchen sink. Many people talked me into this, and I was excited to use it.

It is awesome.

The easiest way to explain the mistake is to say, while I love it, others do not. People hate these things because they do not know how they operate. It is confusing, and it causes frustration.

More of my mistakes are in the link below. Ugh.

#2 Mistake.

Master Bathroom faucets, naturally, this is a double mistake with two sinks in the master bath.

The look of this faucet is gorgeous. I love it.

The Function is horrible. The water comes out and splashes everywhere! The only saving grace is that I am a cleaner. Wiping surfaces down does not bother me, but these faucets are annoying compared to my Brizo beauties.

There is no way to test a faucet because they are typically not set up to do so in a showroom. The only way to understand the functionality is to read reviews.

Always read reviews!

I did not do my homework on these faucets because they came recommended.

Shame on me.

Delta Ara Faucet...not my favorite.
Remodel Fixture Selection ~ Don’t ~ Splashes everywhere

Above is the Delta Ara Faucet, which is not my favorite. I love the look but not the function.

For your remodel and fixture selection, please read all reviews before you buy, and don’t just buy something based on its look. Conduct homework, ask people about their experiences, read reviews, and understand your way of life.

Hardware Selections ~ Do Shop ~ Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment with Cabinet Pulls

The easiest way to offer ideas is to share my experience.

Reminder, decorating is Personal. My Decorating 101 Story Here.

Let’s start with the FINISH. Chrome, Gold, Champagne, Black, Nickel, Stainless, Shiny, Matte, and on and on, a lot to consider.

What are you drawn to when shopping? Perusing Pinterest & Instagram, you probably have favorites. Changing a faucet will prove more difficult than swapping out cabinet door pulls. Don’t be afraid to experiment in a bathroom where you can easily change out some inexpensive knobs, and it is okay to mix metals. Take your time and live with the options for a while, if possible.

I have always loved chrome. Whenever I came to the lake house, I looked at the builder-grade chrome faucets in the bathrooms and thought, I still like the chrome finish.

Chrome and polished nickel will show more spots and watermarks than stainless steel or matte gold.

As a constant cleaner, I always wipe everything down. Good thing, given my faucet issue, explained above. 🙄

BRIZO, BRIZO, BRIZO.

I love Brizo.

Guest Bath Faucet Selection

Brizo Levoir Faucet
Remodel Fixture Selection ~ Do ~ Love Brizo

It all began with the Brizo Levoir selection, shown above, for the Guest Bathroom. I needed something fabulous to go with the Guest Bath Vanity. The low cross-handle kit gave a nautical element to the bathroom. This selection continues to be my favorite.

Kitchen Faucet Selection

Brizo Venuto Kitchen Faucet

Kitchen Faucet above, Brizo Venuto, love it! Unfortunately, it is no longer available, and now they have another great-looking kitchen faucet, found here.

Brizo Venuto Soap Dispenser

Kitchen soap dispenser, also Venuto matches the faucet. You can opt to have a soap dispenser or not.

I added the soap dispenser, and I love it. My husband is the man who double, triple, quadruple, infinity-uple, pumps the soap dispenser. As a result, I run out of soap all the time. If it is empty, he fills it. He fills it with dish soap of any color, purple, yellow, green, orange, yuk. The point, without the pre-installed, can’t-see-the-soap, dispenser, I would look at multi-colored soap bottles every day, all day, on top of my counter.

Instead, I have a gorgeous chrome soap dispenser pump matching my faucet. My countertop is clear of any random bottles. Did I say decorating was personal?

God Bless my husband because he does do dishes.

This model is no longer available replacement is here.

Girls Bathroom Faucet Selection

YAY! Brizo. However, this was almost a mistake. What??? Brizo, no!

Brizo Kintsu Bath Faucet
Remodel Fixture Selection ~ Do know your vanity Configuration ~ Don’t buy fixture until you know Vanity Specs

The mistake was not because of the Brizo brand but the particular faucet configuration I had selected. I had ordered the trim for the bathroom, and luckily the faucet was on backorder and not shipped. The vanity I ordered from Wayfair had a single hole for the faucet and no holes for separate handles. Hold the phone! I stopped the order for the widespread handles and chose the single-hole faucet configuration. It is so cool, and I love it! I dodged a bullet, thanks to the backorder. Promise, sometimes the wait pays off.

The Brizo Kintsu faucet can be found here.

Cabinet Hardware Selection

I penned an entire Post about choosing the cabinet hardware for the kitchen because it was the most important. While remodeling, shopping for and selecting cabinet hardware is vital for your happiness. Make sure you love your cabinet hardware.

Discovery occurred while following a favorite influencer. The minute I saw the hardware pulls, I knew it was what I wanted for the kitchen cabinets. Even though the influencer image was a different finish than I preferred, the shape and design were perfect. I found similar pulls, Jeffrey Alexander Marlo, through my cabinet contractor, and I love them.

Master Bathroom Hardware Selection

Drawer pulls for the master bathroom provide a more traditional look and are gorgeous.  Jeffrey Alexander-Belcastle hardware reminds me of the style at our home while growing up. Bonus, the cabinet contractor shared with me that these are his favorites.

Honestly, selecting the hardware for cabinets as well as shower and bath trim should be fun.

I recommend beginning to shop for these items immediately. Shop, don’t buy, save your favorites and continue to shop. A lot happens during a remodel, and you will have time to shop. Have fun and search until you narrow it down to 3-5 options.

Reread this post a few times for the remodel fixture selection do’s and don’ts before you buy.

TIP: If you are not remodeling but looking for a refresh or an update, changing out cabinet hardware is a great way to spruce up your space without breaking the bank.
