Screened Porch!
The Unveiling of our Brand New Outdoor Oasis!
Maximize Views!
The Number One must-have on my list was to maximize the View. Mission Accomplished. ✔️
Number Two. Screens with no obstructions. No spindles. No rails. ✔️
Shed Roof. This was to maximize the height of the porch, maintain the view from the picture window in the bedroom above the porch, and allow as much light in our home as possible. ✔️
The fireplace was a maybe, which did not happen. It would have obstructed some of the view (see No. 1).
The porch is built to be outside, and the fireplace was not necessary. ❌
A coffee table with a fire will suffice for the winter months. We will add a fire pit on the property closer to the water, which will have a spectacular view. And, I prefer a circular fire pit for conversation. ✔️
The interior color of the screened porch is all cedar with clear stain. It is fantastic. It emulates the surrounding area and blends beautifully with the outdoors. We are at the lake! ✔️
TREX! The entire deck was replaced and updated with Trex. Game Changer!😁
Before & After
We still have a few details to add and update, such as lighting and TV installation, but for now, it is perfect!

Planning The Screened In Porch
Pinterest offers tremendous visual ideas, but to avoid being overwhelmed, make edits. I selected six of my favorite images as examples of how the screened-in porch design will happen.
Number 1, similar to my big a** island, ha, the porch must allow for expansive views. This Grasshopper has learned. Post about 6'0 doors taught me to ask a lot of questions when planning spaces to maximize the view.
- Prefer screens with no obstruction, which means no spindles and rails.
- Shed-Roof is paramount because any tall roof, such as an A-Frame, will darken the great room and the dining/kitchen area. I do not want to cover any area that is not already covered.
- The Fireplace may not happen due to the view obstruction. Investing in a table with a fire will give the ambiance we are seeking. We want to create a fire-pit area below.
- Not sure about interior color. At this point, leaning towards all wood or wood ceiling to cater to the rustic lake feel.
