Organizing Your Home

~ you must be in the mood

~ you must have time

~ stick with one project

~ do not get distracted

Do not try to over organize. Is that a thing? Yes. There are a lot of cool contraptions out there to fire you up to get organized. It's easy to become organize-excited while perusing Pinterest. Once you dive in, will your enthusiasm wane? Below are some ideas that won't take long and will help you feel like you accomplished something.

Vacuum Storage Bags for Clothes etc.

Feel like you need to shrink-wrap everything in your home for space?

Then let's do it!

Clothes, towels, pillows, the options are endless. You should see what I vacuum sealed, put in a Sterilite box & put in the attic.

This will all be donated, handed down etc. Just need the cold winter months to access the attic for organization.

Expandable Drawer Spice Holder

This remains my absolute favorite decision for my kitchen remodel. See how I fast I did it here.

I did not get a fancy built in spice cabinet. I can see every spice & it took me all of 5 minutes to alphabetize them. I keep the most used on the first row.

Measure your drawer, make sure it will fit and you will thank me, forever.

You don't need to get new spice jars & label them, just place, as is & it still looks great!

Expandable Bamboo Tiered Shelf For Pantry

This is a great looking pantry addition. The only organizing is separating the tall from the small and making sure you can see your items.

This does not take a lot of time. Our pantry inventory is ready for a nuclear winter, seriously, and I organized it in about 10 minutes.

Get several if you like them, need them and have the budget.

Pottery Barn Baskets that double as storage

Furniture For Storage

Needed some texture to offset this Pottery Barn Room. Sometimes my Pottery Barn finds are all wood which can make a room too heavy.

Found a great pair of baskets that serve as a coffee table and an end table. Similar ones here. They provide the function of tables, add texture and are fantastic storage space.

The kids constantly have friends to our lake house & extra sleeping spaces are needed.  These baskets house blankets and pillows for our young guests.

Easy access for the kids because we are usually sound asleep when they decide to retire.

Basket for Blankets

Baskets For Blankets

No matter the time of year, having blankets available is important.

In the south, the air conditioner cranks on hot humid days which makes the home a bit chilly. Winter always brings cold air in so make sure you have throw blankets available.

With the addition of your throws or blankets, it can create a messy space if they are not properly folded. Grab a great looking basket, fold them up and they remain tucked out of the way.

It can soften your space while being an attractive use of a basket.

Basket For Hand Towels

Toilet Decor

Toilet decor? Who knew? This can be necessary and very frustrating. How & why do we need to add decor to a toilet?

The top of the toilet is a weird thing, make it a useful organized space, and kinda pretty???

Or, do nothing. Depends on how much is going on in the space.

For this bathroom, there needed to be a pop of color & the disposable towels are a great addition since there are no towel racks.

Measure the top of your toilet tank, put the measurements in your phone & shop for a basket. Purchase nice sized paper towels for hand drying. This adds texture to the porcelain fixture.

Tupperware Drawer...No Need For Dividers

Food Storage Container Drawer

Instead of ordering dividers to organize the drawer for food storage containers, order stackable containers. Whether it is Rubbermaid or Pyrex or any brand, ordering new sets will be cathartic and easily organized.

Favorites seen in image above are Rubbermaid, and Pyrex.

Eliminate any mismatched containers. Recycle or donate the misfits.

Storage for Drink Cups

Drink Cup Storage

Drinking cups seem to take up a ton of room whether it be in your cabinet or a drawer.

With all of the new drawer space in our kitchen, I opted to put the cups in a large drawer.

There are two plastic containers that fit perfectly in the drawer. These are used for the Yeti's.

The two plastic boxes holding the Yeti's serve a purpose. The purpose being to keep track of each Yeti.

Glass Canisters for Laundry Room

Glass Canisters

This is a great idea to dress up your laundry room. This idea is all over Pinterest and Instagram. A great way to add some color to your laundry room.

Fill the glass canisters with Scent Booster Beads and dryer balls for easy access to the products.

No matter how you use the canisters, it will keep you very organized.

Be creative!

Laundry Room Open Shelving

Open Shelving In Laundry Room

Genius.

Open shelving dismisses any cabinet doors from interfering with the main door accessing the Laundry Room.

The open shelf design is the perfect place for multiple soft laundry baskets. The top shelf includes a large basket to keep shopping bags, for return items.

The nook to the right is an awkward corner but turned out to be the perfect place to hide the Dyson cordless vacuum and the hidden clothes rack.

The bonus, the behind the door nook helps hide the ugly Laundry Room items.

Laundry Room Tall Closet for Ugly stuff

Tall Closet For The Ugly Stuff

Put the ugly tall stuff in here on day one and I still have not reorganized it.

The closet system contractor recommended this and it is perfect storage for the mops, brooms, dusters & other uglies.

Toilet scrubbers are really attractive, haha, so I keep those in here too. Fly swatters are disgusting and they are also housed in this hidden space. The yard stick, where else would I store that rarely used item?

Everyone is going to have a space they never want to look at, so find a way to make it unnoticeable from the outside.

See Laundry Room here & see the uglies disappear.

Coat Closet Organization

Entryway Coat Closet

Cue the Closet System Designer!

The image above shows the finished design for our entry way coat closet. It used to house one long-wire hanging rack. Given our limited storage, I decided to create a functional space for more than just coats. When you live in the south, the coat closet is not often used, for coats.

The design included shelving for baskets and boxes to hold all those often used items that are not attractive.

Light bulbs, flash lights, dessert napkins, candles, step stool, foot pads for stools, bluetooth speakers and the list goes on. Oh, and coats.

Pottery Barn baskets, boxes from Home Goods & a wine box hide the unattractive.
