The Best Phrase When Decorating ~ “It Spoke To Me”
The best phrase when decorating ~ “It Spoke To Me”.
I am sharing a funny story about my Mom. She gave my sister a unique glass hurricane she found at a local shop. My Mom was very proud of it because she struggles when buying gifts for my sister and me. The candle holder was a huge score. She saw this item and immediately bought it to give to my sister, and we all loved it, including my husband.
When my husband said he thought it was cool, my Mom responded with a great comment. It spoke to me. We all cracked up. My Mom has incredible taste, but she does not venture outside of her traditional decorating style very often. She shies away from new trends and anything that feels cold to her. The candle holder was a brilliant accessory and was a little bit out of her wheelhouse, yet she knew it would look great in my sister’s house.
The Accessory, the best phrase when decorating, it spoke to me.
The image below is not a great picture, but it is a pretty unique hurricane, and I loved it because of its different shape.
To this day, if my husband and I are shopping together, I don’t care if we are in the grocery store and choosing an avocado, and he will say, it spoke to me.
It’s pretty hilarious because we think of my mom and how cute she is when offering her opinion. Sometimes she’s not so cute, especially if she hates something, she will let you know. She will flat-out tell you, or the face she makes will be even more impactful.
We typically say this phrase when purchasing a big-ticket item. It’s confirmation that we love whatever it is, and my mom would approve.
For the record, when I go to Scott’s Antique Market, it all speaks to me. Using different types of baskets gives texture to all of the rooms in our home. Below are some of my favorite finds from Scott’s Antique Market.
Quick Tip! The dark woven basket bottle sits on a shelf with a dark background. Adding the glass beads around the neck of the bottle helped make the basket stand out.
The Litmus Test
This phrase has become my go-to for purchasing most things, and I always ask myself, did it speak to me? Reliving that funny comment in my head always makes me smile.

One of my favorite things my mom does is rave about my house when she walks through the door. It is a great feeling. I spend so much time trying to make it warm, cozy and hopefully inviting to all who enter. She may be a bit biased, but her approval is all I need.
